An Exiting Adventure

Our first day of safari in Tanzania was VERY exciting. We had a slight mishap on the road minutes after we entered Lake Manyara National Park. We stopped to watch some baboons and the land rover wouldn't start again. Our driver got out to hammer on the battery terminals with a rock and our guide was trying the ignition from the passenger's seat. To keep this short, the car started to roll and the wheels were turned so we rolled right into the ditch. The bush stopped us but not before our guide had his arm broken by a tree that we passed along the way.

Fortunately, we have a doctor in our group and he splinted the arm and someone took them to a local hospital. Numerous vehicles assisted to dig, pull, uncover the land rover from the ditch. It took about an hour and the chopping down of a tree to accomplish the feat. The vehicle had suffered some damage mostly to the windows. \

I' m running out of time so I'll leave it at that. We are all fine. We have a new vehicle, new driver and guide and had a wonderful morning game drive.
More later....

You two really know how to experience Africa! Before you left you talked about wanting to experience the animals, the land and the people. It sounds like everything is coming together as it should, even ending up in a ditch to experience African hospitality and generosity! I'm trying to feel the heat and humidity from here and it is not working! love Carol
